One of the biggest flaws of the original BCEN methodology was that it operated under the basis that you’d only be able to choose one uber for the entire game and wouldn’t own any other uber. While this did make for an interesting methodology in practice, it was not at all practical considering that every player is basically guaranteed to get multiple ubers throughout the game, especially in the modern era where a surplus of Platinum and Legend tickets are gifted in many progression points.

This brings the question of whether or not uber synergy should be accounted for. The benefits of accounting in uber synergy is that it can lead to a more practical methodology and further showcase an uber at their maximum potential, but on the other hand it can potentially dwarf the viability of certain ubers (mainly on the supporting side) since in theory you could just make any bad uber “good” by having them synergize with an extremely good uber.

For the purposes of this methodology, I have decided to account for uber synergy. That being said, there is some nuance when it comes to the weight and necessity of this factor.

When it comes to how highly valued uber synergy is, it will be accounted for but not have dramatic weight to the placement of an uber.

An example with Balrog:

Balrog is an uber that benefits an incredible amount when paired with certain supportive ubers. Some of the best ubers to pair Balrog with include Dark Phono, Chronos, and Emma. My methodology does not assume that you specifically have those 3 supportive ubers, however my methodology does put into consideration that Balrog works well when paired with other ubers including outside of those options.

The reverse is also true on the supporting side. Ubers like Dark Phono are able to benefit units and other ubers like Balrog due to his strong supportive qualities and abilities. This will count towards Dark Phono and increase his rank by a small amount.

When I account for uber synergy, it will be based more on a general stance rather than a specific duo or combination that will be accounted for. This is from the nature of uber acquisition and the unlikely scenario where you’ll have 2 specific ubers that synergize well together.

On the other hand, uber synergy is not mandatory, and the lack of it does not count against the uber. This is assuming that the uber is able to perform perfectly fine without the assistance of other ubers.

This particularly pertains to nukers and high speed units. An uber like Gunduros has questionable, if not arguably bad synergy with many ubers due to his play style of baiting enemies into his range. Using other ubers can disrupt him by knocking back his targets whether that’s from pure damage or from the knockback CC directly. This does not count against Gunduros, rather highlights a more demanding and specific play style. In Gunduros’ case, the reward you get by tailoring his kit tends to be worth the effort, and in this methodology it’s the results that matter more than the process. This ideology can also be applied to other ubers like Supernova Cosmo and Lasvoss.

The best way to describe all my points is with the following statement: uber synergy is accounted for and will be weighed as a bonus to an uber’s overall viability, but the lack of synergy with other ubers in itself is not a detrimental factor.
