When creating matchups charts for ubers, I use a color coded key where enemies with a red underline indicate “Strong/ Reliable Matchup” and enemies with a blue underline indicate “Iffy/ Situational Matchup.”

When I identify matchups for ubers, I ask myself a series of questions that allows me to determine the viability of a matchup.
How does the uber counter this enemy? Is it a good way to counter the enemy or is it potentially self-destructive?
Can this uber counter this enemy with little support on your end? Does it require the assistance of a few very specific non-uber units?
How harsh is the setup? Is it easy to create a scenario/ battleground for this uber to counter this enemy easily?
What kinds of stage archetypes/ common synergies is the enemy in? Does this affect how this uber will counter the enemy?
These questions are in no particular weight/ order, but are some of the most critical components I take into account when I determine the matchups for ubers.
The common types of synergies and stage setup is accounted for when analyzing each enemy. This is done to make the matchup charts more realistic instead of purely hypothetical.
An enemy that has a red underline is classed as a type of enemy that the uber in question will hard counter.
When using said uber, you will not need that much support on your end to take down the enemy. If the uber can take down the enemy with basic support/ just meatshields or even solo the enemy (still accounting for realistic scenarios) then it is most likely a hard counter.
The setup should also be fairly relaxed, though you may have to put in some effort to make the uber counter this enemy. As long as the setup is consistently reliable then the matchup is in the uber’s favor.
When this uber goes against this enemy, the overall stage dynamic should be in the uber’s favor. Examples include commonly exposed backliner enemies being subjected to tank ubers, or swarmy enemies being controlled by fast attacking units.
An enemy that has a blue underline is classed as a type of enemy that the uber in question will soft counter.
When using said uber, you will need a considerable amount of support in order to create an environment for the uber to work well. In addition to meatshields you may also need specific kinds of units to help the uber.
This means the setup is more strict and may include the necessary usage of specific non-uber units in order to neutralize or synergize with this uber. Strategy also plays a role, using mechanics like Thunderbolt or cannon styles lean towards this category.
When this uber goes against this enemy, the overall stage dynamic may not be in their favor. Examples include the enemy being paired with unfavorable matchups or the uber’s mobility being too slow on a stage that may demand fast/ cheap attackers.
These matchup charts that I make and present in my ranking videos are very loosely made. I always make sure to test matchups (especially if I am uncertain about a specific enemy) but keep in mind that much of these matchup ratings, whether red/ blue/ blank, are based on my personal inhibitions/ judgment.
If you see a specific matchup listed that doesn’t make sense or may be contradictory, please forgive my inaccuracy since the priority in my videos is to explain a unit’s usage across what it is good at and what it is bad at.
The color of an underline below an enemy is a minimal concern for me and should be for you as well. At best I recommend you to use these matchup charts as a means to find out which enemy archetypes the uber stands a chance in rather than a hyper-focused guide on what enemies you should use this uber against.
Certain matchups that I label as iffy or even unviable may actually be great on certain stages, and ultimately that reinforces the idea that you are the final decider in how good an uber truly is.
