This methodology serves as a code and explanation to how I evaluate ubers. By adhering to this methodology, I can create rankings/ tier lists with a more concrete basis to the best of my ability as well as explain what types of ubers I value the most.
This methodology is primarily centered around later game content, usually pertaining to the start of Uncanny Legends and beyond. Most of the earlier game content such as story mode, deadly advent bosses, and crazed/ manic are essentially ignored.
An uber’s main usage is what the uber will be mostly judged on. The uniqueness of an uber is determined by what more it can give compared to the non-uber meta and is also highly valued. The lack of generalist usage does not correlate to less value/ worse rank, but is still an important factor too, just not as much as an uber’s designated niche.
Investment is NOT accounted for when ranking and evaluating units. This also means every unit will be evaluated at their full complete max of LEVEL 60 + any available talents/ ultra talents/ ultra forms. Even if a unit has a UT/ UF that is not worth the cost, it will still be evaluated at their peak potential regardless.
This is done for several reasons: It ensures that every uber is viewed in the most optimistic light possible, creates fairness and makes sure no uber gains an artificial advantage by deliberately evaluating an uber at level 50 instead of level 60, avoids the risk of underselling certain units if they benefit greatly from darkeye boost, and makes sure no awkward placements arise from investment which is a personal factor. Whether or not something is worth investing is up to you, and does not impact how good a unit is in their final state.
Combos are heavily valued on a case by case scenario. If an uber becomes extremely OP or has most of its usage from its combo, then the combo will be ranked highly depending on how good the combo effect is.
Uber uniqueness is compared to the non-uber meta and not directly with other ubers. For the purposes of giving every uber a fair chance to shine, ubers will not be allowed to outclass other ubers. Saying “X uber overshadows Y uber therefore Y uber is bad” will NOT be a valid basis for ranking. However, if X uber was a non-uber unit then that would be a valid argument for a lower rank.
Lastly, this methodology carries a bias towards an offensive meta. Speed, damage, DPS, and overall kill power is the preferred method of taking down stages. Ubers who tend to this play style are NOT entitled to, but will most likely receive a better rank. Offensive meta is usually the most optimal method of beating stages, the concept being that you cannot lose if the enemies are already dead.
