Niche includes abilities, targets, roles, & performance in one’s specialized categories.
Niche can be described as the primary function of the unit. This is why niche is the most heavily weighed category, as most units are built around their respective function.
To further understand exactly what niche is and how it is defined, let me provide some examples with some ubers.
Let’s look at Yukimura. Yukimura has massive damage to black, so obviously his niche is being an anti black. Of course there’s more than that, Yukimura is also a rusher/ kamikaze unit, as that is his role and primary function.
Yukimura’s niche is being an anti black/ kamikaze unit. Yukimura is very good at being an anti black/ kamikaze unit, and thus performs well in his niche, and thus gets a generous ranking.
Another example is Lucifer. Lucifer has strong vs anti floating and aku while also carrying the properties of a sniper. Lucifer’s niche is an anti floating/ aku sniper. Lucifer also carries generally good performance in his respective role, and therefore gets a generous rank.
It is also important to recognize that niche can refer to generalist usage, which may seem sort of contradictory, but it is true that some ubers primary usage is being a versatile unit.
An example of this kind of unit could be Balaluga. Balaluga is a long ranged support who has freeze vs every trait in the game. You could argue Balaluga is a generalist, but at the same time he also serves as a specialist because he has a very specific function being a long ranged support.
Niche pretty much refers to a unit’s primary usage. If a unit is simply good at what it is supposed to do, then it will get a higher rank, as simple as that.
